Bonnie Lass on the Adventure

Description

Ah the lass known as Bonnie. I don't know why I like her so much. I think it mostly has to do with :iconmaniac086:'s style when drawing her to be honest. The dude has style. So when he opened up call to arms (re. artists) I decided to answer that call and push myself forward as an artist in the process.

This whole drawing was an exercise in my skills up to this point. The things I've learned were applied to full effect and I've also done things I haven't done yet. Did it all work out? I don't know. I'm very happy with the end result but as always, I know I can do better next time. Backgrounds still elude me as an art form and I'm doing my best to get them working right. The problem I have is that I want to put an excessive amount of detail in them but I just don't know how to go about doing that in the style I'm working with. I want to "paint" my backgrounds in grays and then color wash them on another layer. I think I just need to find the right tool for the job because I'm still using the same tool that I use to color from time to time and that may not be the brush for the job. IDK, I just don't know. But I am happy with how I got the horizon the look as well as how the further back the island goes, the lighter in color it becomes. I'm also happy about the two layers of shadows I've added this time around. Since so much of Bonnie was covered in the rocks shadow, she seemed mostly flat (in color) so I decided to add some shadows. And in an effort to make that look right with the second first layer of shadow, I had to make the second much lighter than I normally would since all that's hitting her in the shadows is soft light.

Oh, and this has been my first deviation posted here in... about six months? Is that right? Wow. I can swear that I haven't just been goofing off the whole time. I just haven't done anything really all that finished and I really just want my devart page to be of finished works. One day I'll do some sketch dumps just to prove I haven't be completely lazy.

Bonnie Lass is wholly owned by one ~maniac086
Art is like... 50% mine (the other 50% is owed to the guy that lives in my right hand. Trust me, if I left it up to my left hand it would look just awful. So credit where credit is due.)

I don't know what you did with the shadows here but I like the mix of soft and hard edges! The shadow cast line from the rock onto her should be more jagged. Love the background but the blue from the sky should bounce off the landscape more and be blurred a little more at the top force that lovely perspective you got there. I don't think I've said more enough......I want more like this! :)
